Here we are scripting our 2nd blog and this time we have decided to provide some basic information on What is Conscious Mind, Subconscious and Subliminal? The topic of our mind is extremely vast and at times it can get very technical. But no worries, we'll try and explain as simple as possible for everyone to grasp the info. Firstly, let us brief you on Conscious Mind.
What is Conscious Mind?
The conscious mind includes everything that is inside of our awareness. This is the aspect of our mental processing that we can think and talk about in a rational way. The conscious mind includes such things as the sensations, perceptions, memories, feeling and fantasies inside of our current awareness. As you are reading this blog, I can say that you are doing it consciously and you are also aware of other surroundings, perhaps: the color of your mug, your favorite song playing on MixFm, your colleague's beautiful floral top and etc. The moment we are awake till we sleep everything around us is by the conscious nature. Now, referring to the image below, we can clearly see that our mind is just like an iceberg.
The top, (the visible part of the iceberg) is our conscious mind and the bottom which is 90% of all is our subconscious mind. Most of us use very little of our mind which is only about 3-4% through out of our lives, balance of 96-97% is untouched forever. What is Subconscious Mind?
The simplest way to understand the subconscious is as a sleeping mind, that you have no conscious awareness of. Your subconscious is constantly recording new information you obtain from the environment around you and stores it. This means that everything you have ever seen, heard or experienced has been filed away somewhere in your subconscious mind. The information that has been stored in your subconscious forms your belief systems, which influence how you act as a person and the things you believe in. Ex: It is very common for parents to advise their children not to play in the rain, simply because they'll fall sick if they get wet, even tough rain drops are water and when we shower its the same water. Now this is a belief system which will be planted into their subconscious mind and true enough when they are older, if they happen to get wet, they will naturally fall sick. Psychologists now have advised parents to mention to children that if they play in the rain their shirt/dress will get wet. This way, the belief system is positive and it will not bring any harm. Dear readers, this is only a small, day to day experience that we have shared to show how powerful our subconscious mind is. We can experience magical moments everyday if we can tap into our subconscious and alter our belief systems (changing our negative thoughts to positive).
What is Subliminal?
Subliminal is something which is below the threshold of conscious perception. In layman's term we'll define it as something is reaching you, but your head doesn't notice it/ it is a verbiage (spoken words) or an image recorded to pass your conscious and address to your subconscious. Subliminal messages play are huge role in our daily life and mostly can be found in advertisements that we see and hear daily. These are few subliminal advertisements that we see everyday and it certainly has been stored in our subconscious mind. Alright readers, what we have shared today is very little and there are tonnes to be shared in our next blog. More interesting, exciting facts about our subconscious mind. In our next blog, we'll touch on how does the subconscious mind influences our decision making in our daily life and more of subliminal advertisements.
